The old Hatch Panel is removed

Did a little work today. Dad focused on getting the hatch panel off so we can get the new one on.

We were swapping between getting the tail gate ready for filling, stripping the roof and getting the hatch panel off. We used a product called Metal Mend on the tail gate to fill in the smaller rust holes and to provide the majority of the fill for where the patches were welded. It is similar to doing the old lead loading. The product is fibre glass with stainless steel filings. It hardened up great and is very solid.

The hatch panel came off with little damage to the brackets. The new one needs a little work to make it fit exactly, but that was to be expected.

I was hoping to get more of the roof stripped than I had, but we had a few visitors into the workshop and I couldn’t use the stripper whilst they were there (that stuff is really lethal). I discovered a small rust hole just on the edge of the roof and the edge that the chrome trim sits on. Nothing major though. The roof has a bit of body filler on it, but didn’t get it all off to see why. Will be focusing on the roof again next time.
