Spent a little time finishing off the tear down of the interior. The last item to be removed was the Heater Unit. I had to remove the unit with the hoses attached ( I had to pull them through the firewall) as there was some corrosion from a possible leak and I could not get the clamps undone. While I have the unit out of the car, I will clean it up and get the heater core tested for leaks, or more likely, just get it re-cored. The case needs a little work and the valve might have a leak.
Penny and I also spent a little time trying to remove the contact glue from where we had pulled out the vinyl. We tried first with metho, but this did little to help. We moved onto thinners; this helped a bit, but we were getting head spins from it faster than we could remove the glue. We’ll have to find something else that can do the job a little easier. A fellow 240Z owner, Nigel, mentioned using prep-sol. I’ll have to look into this and see what it can do for us.
Just a quick post to let you know that I have created a new page on the site. It is an archive of all images that have been posted. The page is called the Gallery Archive. I was getting tired of having to flick through the posts on the site to try and find the photos when I wanted to show people what the car looks like. So, I spent a little time getting dirty in the code for the exhibit plug in (it is the blog plug in that I use to post photos). Hope you like the results.
You can get to the new page by clicking the lnik in the Pages are of the navigation section, or just click here.
At last, a weekend that I can actually get to work on the car, dismantling of the interior is the plan for today. This time of year is always soo busy. BTW, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the readers out there. Hope it’s been a happy and fun time for all. Read the rest of this entry »
Spent the day playing around with getting the guards lined up. Dad got some sponge earlier on in the week to use on the inside of the guards. He also pitched up and fish oiled the front end of the car (under the scuttle panel, etc).
The Guards lined up pretty nicely with only a few minor adjustments being required. The gaps all look nice and even and the front of the guards and the bonnet lines up more or less spot on. We’re still not 100% happy with the height of the bonnet towards the back, but I think that with some adjustments to the latch the problem should be fixed.
Next, I’ll spend some time sanding all of the surface rust that has developed since stripping the paint and treating it with some rust converter. Then we’ll be ready to do the final beating and shaping before putting the first coat of paint on her.
